Devlog #1
After checking out the views my last devlog got, majority of people who view this haven't played the game so...
Hi, I'm the_bug_maker
I'm working on a puzzle game called Quanta. It's a game where you must use the light property of behaving as a wave and a particle to escape your lab. I have included the controls in the bio of the game. OK so, on with the updates.
Major update:
Major changes:
-Optimized game, now runs at 60 fps (for me anyways)
-The game is now downloadable for Windows
-Browser version removed (very sad)
Added:
-Water that slows down photons (particle)
-5 new levels
-some sound effects
-the player character (i know)
-disabled tiles, you can't use them, but I can
-experimenting with some save features
-options menu (currently just for sounds)
What I learned:
- There must be something going on screen at all times, helps the game feel less static
- NEVER draw sprites that are facing directly at the camera, most times. Unless the sprite is animated, having it face the camera directly make if feel flat, using shading can help, but I would say to tilt the camera.
- NEVER USE LIGHT2D, seriously these thing use like all the processing speed
- SFXs are hard :/
Thoughts:
I feel this week was very productive, I achieved all what I set out to do this week and then some. One major issue I couldn't solve was the recording part, I wanted to include some footage of the game but couldn't because OBS is currently breaking my balls (very sad) and I can't find a good video editor. I hope I get that fixed soon so I can start uploading to the channel.
